The woman behind the name
after Agnes Holliman
In 1927, as Augusta celebrated Charles Lindbergh's historic Atlantic crossing, a slight nineteen-year-old waitress named Agnes Holliman thrilled a crowd of some 10,000 on Broad Street — dangling from a rope beneath pilot Sig Smith's airplane as it roared overhead. Her daring is remembered in the room that carries her name, where her painting hangs. (Draft — full biography to come.)
